Travel (Fabian R Lischka)

Favorite places

I like to travel. Here are some of my favorite places.

  • Tikal, Guatemala. Awe inspiring Maya ruins in a hauntingly beautiful setting amid the jungle. Very impressive. On the way there, stop by the Hacienda Tijax, and take a boat trip down the gorges of the Rio Dulce.
  • Iran. Extraordinary hospitable and friendly people for the most part, beautiful historical cultural sites.
  • Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. Amazing fearless wildlife in a rugged landscape.
  • Iguazu, Argentina/Brazil/Paraguay. Stunning waterfalls.
  • Cordoba, Spain. La Mesquita - a huge mosque with a Christian church in its centre. Edifying.
  • East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Rwanda). Wildlife in the Masai Mara, Serengeti, Ngoro Ngoro crater, mountain gorillas of Rwanda; scuba diving off Watamu.

List

I’ve been to 103 countries, if you use a generous count, in which e. g. China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, USA, Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands count as 8 countries (specifically, using the list by the Traveler’s Century Club, which incidentally I could now join). Using a stricter count (in which for example the territories listed above count as only 2 countries), it’s been 83.
